Yes. The PWA and the apps that run on the client are free, no card, no in-app purchase. Server Mode too: the cost is the hardware or the VPS you install it on.

To keep the desktop state across devices, yes: the account is what carries your windows from one machine to the next. You can try it before creating one.

Where is my data?

Preferences and layout live in your account, under per-user rules. Files, containers and automations stay on the server you installed, on your hardware or in your cloud.

Do I need Server Mode?

No. Without a server you already have the desktop, the Finder, Notes, the image editor, the games and dozens of other apps. The server comes in when you want a Linux terminal, VS Code, containers and the agent.

Does it run on a TV?

It does. The /tv route is Big Picture mode, with remote-control navigation, and there is a webOS package for the LG Store.
